Public opinion polls have found Americans upbeat about the progress of the gulf war, but two out of three remain worried that the conflict will spread.
In a poll taken by the Gallup Organization for CNN Thursday and Friday, 29 percent said they were very worried and 38 percent were somewhat worried that war could spread throughout the region or other parts of the world.
At the same time, 73 percent said they thought the United States and its allies were winning the war. Virtually nobody thought Iraq was winning and 20 percent said neither side was winning.
