In recent weeks, newspaper headlines have trumpeted that new observations of the universe have cast great doubt on the validity of the Big Bang theory of how the universe began. This "news" was even seized upon by nationally syndicated columnist Cal Thomas as an opportunity to lambast scientists.
"We certainly have a right to question the wisdom of 'modern' science as the Big Bang theory has gone bust," crowed Thomas in a column which appeared in The Times Union. "Maybe scientists should eat a little humble pie."
All very startling.
And all very wrong.
