If the only treadmill you've tried is the one at the health club, the relatively inexpensive treadmills commonly sold for home use are likely to disappoint you.
That's Consumer Reports' conclusion after testing treadmills priced between $299 and $699. By and large, they were awkward to use, noisy and apt to break down. Although several can be used for jogging, only one provided a speed fast enough for running.
