In the 65 years since its inception, Black History Month haschanged its name, duration and some of its tradition. Now, itsvery essence is being challenged.
In the newly emerging social sensibilities of the 1990s - the term black, for instance, has recently fallen out of favor for many and been replaced by African-American - Black History Month is being charged in some quarters as a patronizing, outmoded concept for celebrating African-American heritage.
