It seems ironic that at a time when people are getting more involved with the environment - particularly with the cost of home heating fuel on the rise and landowners returning to wood as a replacement - the Department of Environmental Conservation would be looking to close a small forestry office in Catskill to balance its budget.

According to regional director Jane Magee, the office will be closed on March 31 due to recent budget cuts imposed by the state.

Now, granted the state has to save money wherever it can, but shutting down an office that has an annual operation cost of less than $35,000 doesn't seem to make sense. ...
