Dec. 24--Bad news has dominated much of this year. There's civil war in Iraq and the Taliban comeback in Afghanistan. Domestically, things are not copacetic, with corruption and malfeasance in the Congress, an unconvicted murderer making hay from his foul deed, oil companies getting away with murder of their own kind, violent crime is up across America -- and all while the globe is warming.

Not to overlook the New York Yankees blowing yet another championship.

It is time, in short, to ferret out the good news that lurks in life's crannies and take comfort during this celebratory season in good news that is often swamped ...
