Dec. 27--The on-again, off-again restoration of the Barfield Building appears on again.
The historic downtown structure that almost was declared a public nuisance by the city in October now stands at the brink of a $7.4 million to $7.7 million renovation.
Metro Tower, the limited liability company that owns the Barfield Building, has obtained a building permit from the city of Amarillo to convert the 10-story structure at 600 S. Polk St. into a mixed-use development with 44 apartments and ground-floor retail space.
A city report lists the construction value of the Barfield Residences project at $6 million.
