In an effort to encourage increased communication, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will cut Medicare payments to physicians by 5% next year.
The reduction is "to account for the combined growth in volume and intensity of physician services," according to a CMS release.
In another change, Medicare will pay physicians more for the time they spend talking with patients about their healthcare and will pay for a broader range of preventive services.
The changes, outlined in the 2007 Physician Fee Schedule, will take effect ...
