Dec 27, 2006 (The Weekly Times - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's Agriculture Minister, Peter McGauran, has issued two grain export permits, functionally breaking the long-standing wheat export monopoly. McGauran's decision to weaken the "single-desk" policy on grain exports has generated support and criticism from grain growing organisations around Australia. The strongest criticism has come from Western Australian growers, who have accused McGauran of having "bastardised" the monopoly.
