Dec. 26--NEW BRAUNFELS -- It's been almost a decade coming, but Interstate 35 commuters can now zip through the city without encountering any road construction zones.
All eight lanes of I-35, four in each direction, were opened for the first time all the way through New Braunfels on Dec. 19, signaling the end of nine years of construction.
Drivers now have at least three lanes each way between San Antonio and Austin.
There will still be a few nighttime lane closures for the final surfacing and work is continuing on Texas 46 and FM 306 underneath the highway. All that work should be wrapped up by the spring, said ...
