Aug. 2--Prestwick Golf Ltd. owner Tom Speicher can't remember life without golf. And it's easy to see why. He grew up in a home just 25 yards from the 11th tee of the Elkview Country Club in Crystal Lake, Pa.
"I practically lived on the golf course," said Speicher (pronounced SPY-sher). "I was probably 2 or 3 years old when my father had me on the golf course."
By the age of 7, he was playing golf regularly. At 10, he was playing competitively in youth golfing tournaments. At 24, he turned professional. Speicher, now 32, doesn't live on a golf course anymore. He gave up professional play four years ago.
But he still plays a lot of recreational golf. ...
