Dec. 29--This New Year's Eve, that celebratory pop may not be from a bottle of Champagne.
During the past several years, sparkling wines produced in other regions and countries outside the famous Champagne region of France have proliferated, and customers are daring to expand their tastes, boosting sales of the category statewide, wine merchants and industry observers have noted.
In New York State, the demand for sparkling wine, including Champagne, jumped 13.6 percent from the period January through November last year, with almost 2.5 million gallons of sparkling wine sold during the same period this year, according to the ...
