NATURAL ENGLAND, the new government agency created to champion the natural environment, was officially launched in October. A product of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006, the new agency is the result of bringing together English Nature, the landscape, access and recreation elements of the Countryside Agency and the environmental land management functions of the Rural Development Service. Its launch was preceded by the publication of a statement of strategic intent (1) and the establishment of a website, and was accompanied by the announcement of four campaigns.
