Nursing home industry officials denounced a state report on the industry's soaring profits Wednesday as a political and distorted attack on their attempts to win increased public funding.
The internal report of the state Health Department, obtained by The Times Union, revealed that nursing home profits throughout the state more than doubled during the last year.
"There is no question in my mind that this is laying the groundwork for further cuts next February or March," said Edward Stafford, executive director of the New York State Health Facilities Association, a trade group representing private nursing homes. ...
