THE Besnier Group has grown into one of the largest dairy companies in Europe from humble origins in 1933 as a Camembert producer. It processes 4.8 billion litres of milk annually with a turnover of 20 billion francs.

Managing director of Besnier (UK), Andy Smith, told The Grocer: "Our business has traditionally been based in France. However, as a result of the Europeanisation of retailing, and the need to seek other markets, we began a strategy three years ago to extend our distribution in Europe.
