Dec. 31--Bend's becoming known for its shopping, dining and lodging options as much as a playground for outdoor recreation enthusiasts, according to the city's tourism-promotion officials.
An increasing number of leisure amenities throughout the city have made it easier to promote a town that used to be known mostly for mountain biking and skiing, said Michael Glover, executive director of the Bend Visitor & Convention Bureau.
The city's tourism-promotion agency wants to market Bend as the premier recreation and leisure destination in the West, particularly to 35- to 50- year-olds with disposable income, Glover said.
