Jan. 3--WATERLOO -- Lamont Muhammad has written "Wow, school is fun" on a sheet of paper and is asking his first-grade Lincoln Elementary School students how to punctuate the sentence. Most of the 20 children hoist oversized laminated red exclamation points. Students enthusiastically participate as Muhammad holds up a series of sentences before switching to a writing exercise. The children are having fun, and so is Muhammad -- despite occasionally needing to rein in students who stray too far from their seats or talk with their neighbors.
