Assocham seeks two per cent reduction in excise duty
New Delhi, Jan 3 (PTI) Industry body Assocham has sought a two per cent reduction in excise duty to 14 per cent in the 2007-08 Budget to boost manufacturing in the country.
In its pre-budget memorandum submitted to Finance Minister P Chidambaram, the chamber urged reduction in excise duty to 14 per cent (to be subsequently reduced to 12 per cent) so as to increase the demand for manufactured goods, leading to higher industrial growth.
