The Capital Region's economy, which had hopped along very nicely for a year, has slowed down to a tortoise's pace, according to research by a local business group.

The slower growth rate isn't worth panicking about -- yet, according to the conclusion reached by the Center for Economic Growth Inc. in its latest survey of the area's economy.

The economic index for the region -- which measures activity in such sectors as the labor market, housing sales and construction, weekly production hours, airport traffic and general construction contracts -- has slipped each month since March.
