What makes "The Secret Garden" an indelible movie is also what separates it from most commercial childrens fare -- it's not afraid to make kids squirm in their Osh Kosh britches.
It's an eye-widening experience for youngsters because it probes their primal anxieties about some of the more mysterious aspects of adulthood, namely sex and death.
"The Secret Garden" ends up being an enchanting and uplifting story for young people -- "G" rated. The ending cannot help but seem sunny, rising as it does from a story that's initially and powerfully dark.
