In what may be the single deadliest attack in Iraq since the 2003 US-led invasion, at least 154 people are killed in a series of co-ordinated suicide car bomb attacks in the crowded east Baghdad slum of Sadr City. According to police sources quoted by wire agencies, at least 257 people were also injured in the bombings, which may escalate Iraq's cycle of violence. They may also harden sectarian attitudes and disrupt efforts by PM Nouri al-Maliki to oust militia-affiliated ministers from his Shi'ite-dominated government.
