A judge on New York's highest court, in a tribute to his most famous predecessor, characterized the late Benjamin N. Cardozo as a remarkable teacher.
Actually, Cardozo, who served as chief judge of the state Court of Appeals before he was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1932, never taught formally. But his judicial and extra-judicial writings continue to inspire and educate both lawyers and laypersons, according to Judge Joseph W. Bellacosa of Guilderland.
