Jan. 4--Rubber product producers fear that tens of thousands in the industry could suffer if the government imposes an anti-dumping duty on imported zinc oxide from China, although others in the industry welcome the move.
Recently a few zinc oxide producers, including market leader Univentures Plc, petitioned the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) to crack down on cheap imported zinc oxide from China. The chemical is used to strengthen rubber.
But local rubber manufacturers say the measure would force them to pay more for zinc oxide and cut their profit margins.
