Anyone who takes the Northway south to Western Avenue has seen them big rigs that peel off at Exit 24, barrelling down the narrow ramp that leads to the Thruway interchange. All too often they tip over, spilling their contents and clogging traffic. Always they present a danger to the passenger vehicles around them.
Exit 24 isn't unique, just more infamous as a rollover pit. In fact, fast-moving big rigs pose a safety risk not only on major thoroughfares but also in city traffic, where they are too bulky to negotiate narrow streets, causing accidents and downtown gridlock.
