King Arthur, fact or fiction?
Stories about King Arthur, his band of knights, wife, Guinevere, and brave Sir Lancelot have circulated for nearly 1,500 years. Sooner or later everyone who encounters Arthur asks the question, ``But, was he real?''
``No, there wasn't a King Arthur, but some say there should have been,'' says Virginia Laumeister, librarian and coordinator for a week of King Arthur events at the William K. Sanford Town Library in Colonie. Most scholars think the legends grew around a historical figure, but one very different from the grand medieval king we usually imagine, she says.
