Courtney Love of the band Hole was married to the late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. Let's get that right out of the way.
Love is also well known as the prototypical loudmouthed punk-rock bleach pit with a slashing wit and an inability to differentiate between a conversation and a monologue. She's a cigarette flicker in an ashtray world.
Raised in San Francisco and Portland, Ore., by hippie parents, the 28-year-old Love has been running away since age 12.
Along the way, she hung with the punks in London, worked as a stripper in Alaska and picked up a few bad habits. Courtney Love is a mess.
