General Electric Co. held talks about selling the brokerage division of its Kidder, Peabody & Co. unit to PaineWebber Inc., a person familiar with GE said. - The negotiations stalled earlier this week over price, the person said. He said he didn't know if the talks had resumed. - PaineWebber is the nation's fifth-largest securities firm in terms of brokers, with 5,500. Kidder has about 1,250. - ``It wouldn't surprise me,'' John Keefe, an independent analyst who follows the brokerage industry, said of the talks. ``PaineWebber has done a nice job expanding its retail operation.''...
