A few years ago "diversity training" for managers and employees concentrated on teaching understanding and respect for ethnic and racial minorities in the workplace.
Today, experts in the field say it has broadened to include appreciation for a range of differences, such as age, gender, sexual orientation and physical disability.
Instructors, or "facilitators" as they are commonly called, emphasize that the training "is designed to honor everybody," said Dr. Sondra Thiederman, owner of Cross-Cultural Communications, a San Diego-based firm.
