``The Giant Cuban Death's Head Cockroach is probably how most people will remember me,'' says Doug Palmer, contemplating his retirement. ``That one made the Weekly Reader.''
It was a slow news day about seven years ago when one of Palmer's students found the ``spectacularly large'' roach in North Miami. ``It was the northernmost find,'' Palmer says. ``They're about 3 inches long and when they're skittering around they sound like mice.''
