Psychiatric and chemical dependency hospitals were hit hardest by the continuing decline in occupancy rates at Greater Cleveland hospitals last year.
Inpatient volume at 33 of the 47 hospitals in a seven-county area dropped in 1993, according to registration and planning reports filed with the Ohio Department of Health.
Occupancy rates rose at 13 of the hospitals, and the rate for one hospital remained the same in 1993. In 1992, occupancy rates declined at 40 area hospitals.
