It is estimated that there are nearly 3 million small groups in this country with more than 100 million members who say they are receiving caring support from them.
While frequently these groups arise from or gravitate toward local places of worship, many also are purely secular. Both religious and secular support groups, however, usually share a bond with their members that enables them to understand why it is so often better to give than to receive.
