Setting the dining table should begin with linens.

Table cloths are optional, but do keep in mind that they add warmth and a touch of formality to any setting. Another nice thing about table cloths is that for a relatively small expense, you can add great color to the dining room.

But if a table cloth is not something you care to be bothered with, at least consider place mats with matching and/or complementary napkins. Any occasion can be festive if the right colorful place mats and napkins are included.
