ALBANY With a modern, neon-lit, red-and-white McDonald's about to set up shop right next to the city's oldest neighborhood, an alderwoman on Sunday called on Mayor Jerry Jennings to intervene and block the project.

But while 1st Ward Alderwoman Carol Wallace calls the proposed eatery ``atrocious'' and ``shockingly incompatible'' with the Pastures neighborhood, the project has the strong support from some normally conservative quarters, including the head of Albany's leading historic preservation group.
