Thanks to good friends in high places, homeopathic remedies have been legally recognized as drugs for half a century. In 1938, U.S. Sen.ator Royal Copeland, who also was a homeopathic physician, saw to it that the new federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act included a special provision for homeopathic remedies. As a result, all substances listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States have been exempt from the safety and efficacy testing legally required for other drugs.
