Art Deco is a style that swept through the most fashionable circles in the 1920s and 1930s. The name came from a 1925 exhibition in Paris called the ``Exposition des Arts Decoratifs''.

Americans were quite enamored with Parisian art at the time so it was predictable that they took so favorably to the Art Deco style.
