Even in a cranky mood, Hal Holbrook oozes classic Southern qualities -- a courtesan's civility, breezy charm and a love of storytelling.
"I just entered my hotel suite, and I found I had a Jacuzzi in my bedroom. I phoned the girl in the lobby and said, 'Excuse me, but what the hell is this? Why would anyone want a bathtub next to their bed?' And she said, 'Oh, some people find it very romantic. They like to get in bed and look at (each other in) the bathtub.'
Holbrook guffawed. "I'm going to be 69 years old this week. ... I'm traveling alone. I told her I wouldn't be needing it."
