Just like that, almost half of the Madison City Council is turning over.
Nine of the council's 20 incumbents are stepping down, providing a much-needed chance for change.
Even more exciting is that so many fresh faces have emerged to compete for open seats and to challenge several of the remaining incumbents who hope to keep their jobs.
In all, 46 candidates will seek 20 aldermanic seats -- the most in recent memory.
The City Council also is losing, none too soon, its earnest but ineffective president, Austin King. The young president steered the council into draining and needless fights over minimum wage and sick leave -- issues that state and federal ...
