Jan. 5--It was a heartbreaking situation for Gilbert Aveno. His son Jeshua was legally blind, born with retinitis pigmentosa. But the boy wanted to play sports.

During his elementary school years, Jeshua came to his father asking if he could play soccer or basketball. But doctors said sports involving a ball were out of the question.

Then the sixth-grader asked if he could try out for wrestling.

"I was worried about him, but there was no real reason to say no, so I let him," Gilbert Aveno said.

The decision changed his son's life.
