A study published in the journal Burns found honey salve healed superficial burns more effectively and quickly than a standard treatment of silver sulfadiazine. Honey deters infection, stimulates the formation of new blood capillaries and connective tissues, and is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.
Most honeys derive their antibacterial effects from hydrogen peroxide, produced by an enzyme naturally present in honey.
