PITTSFIELD, Mass. Today, she still doesn't like to think about it. The thought of what would have happened to her on that day with that man remains a terrifying one.
Yet last week, Rebecca Savarese, a 13-year-old eighth-grader from Pittsfield, found the strength to re-create a real-life nightmare, and tell her story in a public courtroom. Her dramatic testimony in no small part contributed to Lewis S. Lent Jr. being convicted of kidnapping the girl and assaulting her with a dangerous weapon. On Friday, Berkshire Superior Court Judge Daniel A. Ford sentenced Lent to the maximum penalty 17 to 20 years in prison.
