MENANDS Chester A. Arthur may best be remembered for, well, being unremembered.
Arthur is usually rated as having been a mediocre president, bottom-middle of the pack, one who served primarily without distinction. History recalls him as the 21st of 42 U.S. presidents, and not much more.
For the record and in case you forgot Thursday was the 165th anniversary of his birth.
Chet Arthur, as Siena history professor Thomas O. Kelly said, was ``part of a whole series of inconsequential presidents.''
