Grand slam. Body slam. Poetry slam.
Shakespeare may be rolling over in his sonnet-strewn grave, but the literary equivalent of a mosh pit a hurly-burly reading known as a poetry slam looms on the performance scene. Its originator is coming to Albany the night before Halloween, promising a real scream.
Marc Smith, founder of the poetry slam, which has spawned a clump of imitators, will offer a performance today at QE2, 13 Central Ave., Albany. Smith will take the stage following the monthly poet's open microphone, which runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The open mike is open to all. Costumes are encouraged. A ...
