The local Democratic and Republican parties have a cure for the ills of democracy less of it.

Representatives from the two parties have lately been discussing the means by which they might be able to bypass the formality of elections in the next state Supreme Court judges races.

Reportedly they would have the party leadership decide the victors in advance.

A civics class student might think that the purpose of elective office is to allow the voters to decide the best candidate for the job, and that the reward of holding a public office was to be found in that very service to the public.

How wrong that silly student would be. ...
