Byline: JOHN CAHER Staff writer ALBANY Howard Corman was the loving son and sibling of a family that planned to watch him grow in his life and career.

But under New York's 149-year-old wrongful-death statute, which values Corman's life at $7.67 a day, none of that matters.

All that is relevant in the death of Corman is that he was a 25-year-old waiter who didn't earn much and didn't have any dependents. Hence, hisanticipated 75-year-old life, according to a settlement this week, was worth a grand total of $140,000 or $7.67 a day.
