More people are buying camcorders as prices fall, quality improves and greater automation makes them simpler to use.

Even the plainest camcorders produce decent pictures in good light and have plenty of special features. These days, a 12:1 zoom lens is typical, and more models come with a color viewfinder, remote control and special picture effects.
