UCI researchers studying whether sea salt particles add to air pollution. (Originated from The Orange County Register)

SANTA ANA, Calif. _ The fresh spume of the ocean might harbor a dirty secret. 
Researchers at the University of California, Irvine, are spending $340,000 in part to find out whether sea-salt particles make air pollution worse. 
The answers they come up with may help scientists better understand the intricate dance of chemical reactions in the ocean of air around us. 
``This may be another contributor to reactions that occur in smog,'' said Barbara Finlayson-Pitts, a chemist heading the research project. ``Probably not a huge contributor, but a part of that chemistry.''
