Using a cordless phone can be a liberating experience. You walk and talk at will, thanks to an antenna-equipped handset that communicates by radio with the telephone's base.
But cordless-phone owners know that such freedom has its costs. The signals from a cordless phone are intercepted much more easily than those on a phone line, and it's not uncommon for neighbors to stumble by accident onto one another's cordless-phone conversations. Also, static and other noise can hamper the handset's reception as you get farther away from the base. And cordless telephones have always been more expensive than corded models.
