WASHINGTON If there was any question about whether gospel music has reached the mainstream of the music industry, the Grammy Awards proved it has indeed. Numerous gospel artists were honored during the ceremonies this week.
In some cases, those rewarded had been at work in the gospel industry for decades. Take the Rev. Milton Brunson, who started the Thompson Community Singers in his hometown of Chicago in 1948.
On Wednesday night, the 65-year-old pastor had something to celebrate for his years of dedication: his first Grammy, a tie for the best gospel album by a choir or chorus.
