WASHINGTON Pressured by prominent conservatives, the educators who last fall unveiled the first national standards for teaching history have agreed to examine whether some of their recommendations show liberal bias, slight well-known American figures or marginalize Western civilization.
Leaders of the project met privately for four hours Thursday with critics and said afterward that on some issues, those who have questioned the tone and slant of the history standards may have a point.
