There are few literary properties that prove to be box-office successes no matter how many times they are remade.
For instance, there have been at least five versions of Alexander Dumas' ``The Three Musketeers'' dating back to Douglas Fairbanks' silent release. But of the five, only Fairbanks' effort caused a big stir at the time of itsrelease.
There are other such examples Robert Louis Stevenson's ``Treasure Island'' and Victor Hugo's ``The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' are two that come quickly to mind but none of them has had the consistent impact as has Louisa May Alcott's ``Little Women.''
